such an atmosphere! It feels very unique and i appreciate that :) i feel like there might be a little too muchh overlapping in the midrange and i get a sense of crunchiness on the gain,,, i feel like this is probably intentional but idk it's not working for me as a facet of the piece. i love the progression around 0:47 i think that was a very fun choice, and it melds back in at 0:58 very expertly :)

this is lovely, and i probably will just keep this tab open for a bit :)

Very glad you enjoyed it!

I fear my love for the "Codec Crunch" gets a little to intense some times. I feel like the more crispy the crunch, the more gritty the dungeon, lol.

It's the same Codec line I used for my AIM submission, funny enough, I just think the padwork here is a little overcompressed, but it wasn't something I put more than like 40 minutes or so into.

Really goes to show how wildly different a track can turn out under different circumstances.

Also as I'm typing this I'm also remembering on the track here I kinda pushed Yoin's fuzz as much as I could before it was obnoxious.

I always appreciate comments, it's super fun talking about tracks and stuff like this.

Thanks for the comment, Jimmy!

that snare click sticks out like a sore thumb, but overall i can hear a very pleasant sound here. I hear that you're going for an elevator/bg vibe, but i think the washover of reverb is muddling the track rather than defining it. I love the pad/e.piano/bass on the lows, i think it melds so well with the main melody.

this is nice, but yeah, just needs to be mixed a bit differently imo.

edit - the mixing is a lot more consistent with the new version but..... omg this is gonna make me sound insane but i think that snare click should have a liiiittle bit more punch imo. a middle ground lol, between the initial upload and this current version.

bossimusic responds:

yo! Thanks for the feedback. I did upload the wrong ver. but I do see what you mean. lmk what you think of the final version.

0:00 -:30 this is some heavy wild pushing melody out of the ether and i really love the effort and the vision

0:31- 2:24 when it drops the first time i'm enjoying the energy but ultimately. i wish it hadn't been breakcore! 0:53 --1:34 i honestly just don't vibe with this genre that much, i find there's not enough space on the levels to allow the features to breathe. it was very jumpyjumpyjumpy which is cool it's just not for me.

2:27-onward is a seashell wide as the shoreline pouring out this static wave of sonic capacity and it washes over me and i do love what you've done with this ending.

truly i think i'd love to death a song that more encapsulated the ending and beginning, and pushed the boundaries a little more -- i feel like there is a vision there!

VarxenCore9 responds:

1. Thanks for that tho

2. Yeahhh... too bad, I get that breakcore (or even IDM) isn't really for everyone. It's one of the main styles I make but I understand where you're coming from. Also, yeah I noticed that there's like a narrow dynamic range of the track, though that didn't bother for me after listening a few times. Still, I get that it's a lil 'jumpy' and too crowded but from what I've heard, breakcore tends to have that kind of chaotic energy, so it may sound crowded at times.

3. Again, thanks! I really appreciate that you liked the experimental intro and outro of the track.

I'm working on making an EP based around this track soon, opens very ambient and atmospheric & then will go into more techno / dance flavors, ending much more noisy & industrial :)

really fucking with this interpretation! thank you for putting this out there :)

greystarmusic responds:

thank you so much! it was a lot of fun to make :)

noticeably lacks a center lead or melodic phrase, but as backing, this is still cool!

TurtleBox420 responds:

Yeah, every track for this project was basically just a 61 second loop. It was a SFX heavy game, lots of jumping, platforming, power up noises, stuff like that. Figured the best way to do tracks was to have really lite but somewhat dynamic tracks, just some pads and a bassline.

Part of me is bummed it'll never really get released in full but I had a lot of fun recording the drums and bass for the whole thing.

the melodic progression was honestly pretty fresh! kept me on my toes. felt a bit repetitious at times, I wonder if the soundfont might be a bit limited sonically to convey the full range of the piece. still it keeps pace well and i particularly liked 0:55-1:05. i think the lead at the end could be brought down by a point or two, and i would love if the song gave itself just another second or two of ending -- but i like this! thanks so much for sharing.

Cipower3 responds:

Thanks. I didn't actually use any soundfonts for this track. most the instruments were made with jummboxes built in fm synthesizer. but after looking over it in the the editor, i do think i could have raised the pitch a bit. Im very bad at extending songs. but still thx for the reveiw!

damn this was cool asf!! seems like such a fun project to have worked on, it turned out really well :)

ADR3-N responds:

Thank you! Yes it was a blast. I love 90s pop and hiphop so I went on a total bender with the beat. It originally was supposed to be a commission, but the commissioner never paid, nor reached out after saying they initially didn't like it. So I'm happy to have made something out of it. SM really made it pop though!
