I agree with BBaNK on the bit about more character on the drums, but I love the droning nature of this, more than anything. I love the subdued nature of this apocalyptic presentation -- it's reminding me very much of the later tracks on Carpenter Brut's Trilogy LP -- I think it's a total vibe.

The way it dips out so fast it makes me think that there's another track that is meant to follow!

I would listen to this kinda stuff on long late night drives all the time when I was younger. Shit's hype :)

That's a high compliment! I actually started this track off with nothing but the throat singing, a random dubstep drum loop that I clipped into dnb, and some samples I had made myself from clapstack cymbals. A huge experiment and a rush-job, but I think it paid off

One of these days I want to revisit and de-ess the vocals some more. I was recording 2 inches from an unshielded mic at whisper volume. You can kinda hear my Russian hard H and non-aspirated T aha

the clock ticking immediately sets thematic elements. cinematic is definitely the genre.

i love the skipping journey the piano takes on the lower octaves, i love the burst of energy in the piece, and the way it peels back to the strings and the piano and than smashes back on again -- it's all very inspired yeahyeah! i do find myself wondering where the clock went ;; not that i want it pervading the whole track, but its complete omission is a little curious.

I really really love the parts the bells play at the end of this; really good implementation of what can be a clumsy instrument.

i tragically think the brass is a little too fat in conjunction with the rest of the piece, though the rest of the instrumentation is very gelled.

and then when the shift at 2:30 happens and the pad finishes off with a scream, there's this tension that comes from awakening from a dream, like the listener is being thrust into wonders and car rides to beautiful places and it's kind of horrifying in the exciting way that life is. I love the pitched up pad that replaces the brass here, i love how it goes off the rails for a final 8 or so notes that go up an octave and yet still feels very controlled. the full stop here does feel harshly abrupt on my ear, for better or for worse.

that said, i love this subdued and bare beginning to this outro and we return to the original instrument and it fits super well in here for sure, maybe still a little loud in the mix.

the ending made me smile --

very liminal, but in a soft and comforting way.

i love the flute // i love the flute that wants nothing other than to sing a little tune when the mood strikes it, regardless of what the rest of the song wants to do.

i feel like the ending is a bit cut-off, but other than that, this is hype :)

the first 20 seconds are very inviting and the slight tone shift with the pad cutting in shortly after only drew me in further.

right when the vocoded/wah's start to feel a bit overly clustered at the 1:07 mark, the guitar takes over with great timing. the strings are meandering and curious, and the whole song begins to come into its own that way, in an inquisitive sense.

it's a really peaceful track // kinda sandy. it's nice.

the second set of phrases from the guitar are a little higher pitched and almost mold into a keyboard which i think is very lovely. the bass does its job throughout. here, at 3:12 my ear notices the first and only set of repetition in the song that feels a bit overdone. you could probably nix that last cycle for the sake of succinctness.

the track closes out with a pitchbend and i'm a sucker for that, i can't lie.
